Ridding Your Property Of Pesky Flocks Of Birds

Hollywood actress Helen Hunt recently complained about a noisy flock of wild parrots nesting in the back yard of her L. A.-area home. Apparently the parrots are constantly screeching and leaving droppings everywhere.

This type of nuisance actually occurs quite often. People purposely plant fast-growing trees in their back yards so they can eventually enjoy summer barbecues and picnics under those trees in the shade only to discover large flocks of birds making those trees their home, settling down and roosting night after night.

Needless to say, that’s the end of pleasant picnics in the shade since the birds, habitually roosting high above, heavily splatter everything beneath the branches.

Can anything be done to discourage these birds from making your property their home?

At dusk, when it’s almost completely dark and the majority of the flock has settled in the tree to roost for the night, take a sturdy piece of board and slam it hard against the trunk of the tree. The sudden loud noise will scare the birds away. Do this several evenings in a row until they make it a habit of roosting elsewhere.
