Ice Skating Competition Hazards

The Winter Olympics ice skating competition is always spectacular to watch. However, every time the audience tosses flowers, stuffed animals and the like into the rink in tribute to a skater’s performance, I cringe. Hopefully the next skater won’t have a major mishap on the ice due to a leaf or piece of flower, a sequin, button or rhinestone from a stuffed animal or even a feather from the previous skater’s costume causing the next skater to fall. It seems counterproductive to purposely throw anything at all onto the ice right before another skater competes for a coveted medal.
